Plitvice Lakes are located in Croatia and are similar to Krushuna waterfalls in the Bulgaria, but much larger and extensive. In the largest lake even traveling boat, which takes you to other coast. The crystal clear blue waters of the lakes overflow to each other through beautiful and numerous waterfalls.
Located about 1000 km from Bulgaria, Plitvice lakes are a destination that everyone should visit.
There are several routes of which the longest around all lakes lasts almost all day. There are wooden bridges and trails that make walking around the lakes very lightweight and affordable. There is an entrance fee of 15 euros.
The area of Plitvice lakes was declared a national park on April 8, 1949, and in 1979 was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The total area of lakes is 217 hectares, of which three quarters are making by the two largest lakes: Kozjak and Proshchansko lake. The total number of lakes is 16.
Due to various natural features, lakes are divided into Upper and Lower. The highest of them Proshchanskoto lake is 639 meters above sea level, and the lowest - Novakovic Brod is 503 meters. The upper lakes are located on a dolomite base where surface erosion creates highly uneven terrain and regular river valley. All around these lakes, and partly in the area of waterfalls, stretches forest. The lower lakes are smaller and shallower on limestone base and are located in the canyon of cliffs carved by the river.
Karst springs are fed by groundwater from the karst background, which is only partially within the park. The main quantity of water in the lakes brought streams Crna and Bijela Rijeka, Plitvice and Sartuka that flow into lakes of karst springs and Riechitsa - in Kozyak and hence the lakes from dolomite oozed springs.
